I use to navigate with an Ipad using the internal GPS and get excellent results even if the Ipad is inside my boat. In the past I also used a VHF/AIS with an internal antenna the VHF was under the deck and the AIS gave excellent results
So I don’t understand why it is necessary to have an external antenna for the GPS

Hello!

There is no need for an external GNSS antenna. However, depending on the place of installation (e.g. inside a building), it might be recommended to get better GPS performance.
